YouTube Video Analytics Checker

What this YouTube video analytics checker shows

Paste the link to any public YouTube video and the YouTube video analytics checker pulls its live numbers from YouTube’s official Data API: views, likes, comments, upload date, length, category and tags, plus the channel’s subscribers and total uploads. It works on anyone’s video, with no sign-in and no access to the channel.

Raw counts only tell you so much, so the checker also works out what YouTube doesn’t show on the watch page: engagement rate, views per day since upload, and how the video compares with the channel’s last 10 uploads. That last comparison is usually the most useful number on the page, because it tells you whether a video is a hit by that channel’s own standards.

How to use the YouTube video analytics checker

  1. Copy the video’s link. Normal watch links, youtu.be short links, Shorts, live and embed links all work, and so does the 11-character video ID.
  2. Paste it into the box above and press Analyze Video.
  3. Read the top cards for views, likes, comments and engagement, then scroll down for the channel comparison, tags and technical details.
  4. Use Copy report to paste the numbers into a doc, or Copy link to this report to send someone the same check.

The numbers are fetched fresh every time, so you always see the current view count rather than a cached one.

How the engagement rate is calculated

engagement rate = (likes + comments) ÷ views × 100

A video with 50,000 views, 2,000 likes and 150 comments has an engagement rate of 4.3%. As a rough guide:

Engagement rate What it usually means
Under 1% Low. Common for viral or heavily recommended videos, where many viewers are casual.
1–3% Typical for most videos on YouTube.
3–6% Strong. The audience cares about the topic or the creator.
Over 6% Exceptional. Usually a small, loyal community, or a video that asks viewers to comment.

Treat it as one signal. YouTube ranks videos mostly on click-through and watch time, which only the channel owner can see.

What the numbers mean together

  • Lots of views, few comments: often a search-driven video, such as a tutorial people watch once and leave. That can still be a very successful video.
  • Modest views, many comments: a topic people want to argue about or discuss. Worth studying if you want community, not just reach.
  • A new video already above the channel’s median: YouTube is probably recommending it. Look closely at its title and thumbnail.

Comparing a video with the channel’s recent uploads

A million views means little on a channel that averages ten million, and a lot on one that averages twenty thousand. So the YouTube video analytics checker fetches the channel’s last 10 public uploads and shows the median views and engagement, where this video ranks among them, and how many times the median it has reached. Open the list to see each of those uploads with its date, views and engagement, and click any of them to check it next.

Keep the video’s age in mind. An upload from two days ago has had far less time to collect views than one from last month, so a new video sitting near the median is often on track to beat it.

Checking YouTube video stats on someone else’s channel

Everything in the YouTube video analytics checker is public data, which is why it works on any channel. Creators use the YouTube video views checker to benchmark competitors before choosing a topic. Brands and agencies use it to vet a creator before a sponsorship, since a channel with 500,000 subscribers and 0.4% engagement is a very different deal from one with 50,000 and 7%. Researchers use it to get exact counts without scraping.

What you can’t see is private: watch time, audience retention, traffic sources, impressions and revenue live only in the owner’s YouTube Studio. For a deeper look at which public numbers matter, read our guide to YouTube analytics without owning the channel.

Title, tags and hashtags

The YouTube video analytics checker also shows the metadata the uploader chose and how close it is to YouTube’s limits: 100 characters for a title, 5,000 for a description and 500 for tags. Hashtags are read from the description. YouTube ignores all of a video’s hashtags if it has more than 60, which the checker flags. The exact rules are in YouTube’s hashtag policy.

YouTube Analytics Without Owning the Channel: The Public Metrics That Actually Matter

Views are the least useful public metric. Engagement rate, comment ratio, views per day and views-to-subscribers tell you what a video actually did, and they're computable for any channel. A 20-minute method for reading competitors.

Frequently asked questions

How can I see how many views a YouTube video has?

Paste the video’s link into the YouTube video analytics checker above. It returns the exact view count from YouTube’s API, which is often more precise than the rounded number on the watch page.

Can I check YouTube video stats for someone else’s video?

Yes, for public numbers: views, likes, comments, tags, upload date and channel size. Watch time, retention and revenue are private to the owner.

Why does it say likes are hidden?

The uploader has chosen to hide the like count. YouTube doesn’t return it, so the engagement rate is based on comments only.

Can I see dislikes?

No. YouTube made dislike counts private in 2021 and no longer shares them through its API, so no honest tool can show the real number.

Does it work for Shorts and unlisted videos?

Shorts work like any other video. Unlisted videos work if you have the link; private videos can’t be checked.

Is the YouTube video stats data accurate?

It comes straight from YouTube’s Data API at the moment you check. If a check fails, the shared API quota may be busy for a minute, so try again shortly.
