What this llms.txt generator does

The llms.txt generator builds a correctly formatted llms.txt file for your website: a short Markdown file that gives AI agents a summary of your site and a curated list of its most useful pages. Enter your domain to import pages from your sitemap, or add them by hand, then edit, check and download the finished file.

The output follows the llmstxt.org format: an H1 with your site name, a one-line summary in a blockquote, optional details, then H2 sections of links, each written as - [Title](URL): note.

How to use the llms.txt generator

1. Type your domain and press Import from sitemap. The generator reads your sitemap, groups pages by their folder (tools, blog, docs and so on) and keeps up to twelve per section. Translated copies are skipped unless you untick the box.
2. Check the name and summary it picked up from your homepage and rewrite the summary so it says plainly what the site is and who it’s for.
3. Rename sections, fix page titles and delete anything an AI doesn’t need, such as legal pages or thin category pages.
4. Add a short note to your most important links. One line on what the page covers helps an agent decide whether to open it.
5. Put secondary pages in a section called Optional, which tells agents they can skip it when space is tight.
6. Download llms.txt and upload it to your site’s root so it opens at yoursite.com/llms.txt.

Does it help SEO?

Not for Google rankings. Google’s guidance on AI features in Search says you don’t need llms.txt or any special AI file to appear in them. An Ahrefs study of 137,000 sites found that 97% of llms.txt files received no requests at all in May 2026, and no major AI company has confirmed it reads them for answers or citations.

Where it is useful is with AI agents and coding assistants that browse on someone’s behalf: a clear index saves them crawling your whole site. Chrome’s Lighthouse includes an llms.txt check in its experimental agentic browsing audits for that reason. So think of it as a cheap, harmless map for agents, not a ranking tactic. Tips for a useful file

• Curate, don’t dump. Twenty well-chosen pages beat five hundred. The file is meant to be read quickly.
• Use full URLs. Write https://example.com/page/, not /page/.
• Write the summary for a stranger. One or two sentences on what you do, for whom and where.
• Keep it current. Regenerate the file when you add or remove major sections.

Where do I put the llms.txt file?

In the root of your website, next to robots.txt, so it loads at https://yoursite.com/llms.txt. Documentation sites can also place one in a subfolder such as /docs/llms.txt.

Is it the same as robots.txt?

No. robots.txt tells crawlers what they may access. llms.txt doesn’t block or allow anything; it’s a reading list that points agents to your best pages.

What is llms-full.txt?

An optional companion file that contains the full text of your key pages in one Markdown document. It’s mainly used by documentation sites; most websites only need llms.txt.
