Open Graph Tag Generator
What is the Open Graph Tag Generator?
The Open Graph Tag Generator writes the meta tags that control how a link looks when it is shared: the title, description, image and URL that Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Slack, Discord and X read to build a preview card. Fill in the fields, watch the preview update, and copy the tag block into your page’s head. It covers both Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, and runs entirely in your browser.
How to use it
- Enter the page URL, title, description and image URL. The image should be at least 1200 by 630 pixels and absolute.
- Set the type (website or article) and, for articles, the author and publish date if you want them.
- Choose the Twitter Card style: summary_large_image is right for almost everything.
- Check the preview for each platform, then copy the tags into your head section.
- After publishing, run the URL through the platform’s debugger (Facebook Sharing Debugger, LinkedIn Post Inspector) to clear its cache.
The tags that matter
- og:title and og:description can differ from your SEO title; write them for a social feed, shorter and punchier.
- og:image is the one people notice. 1200 by 630, under 1 MB, JPG or PNG, absolute URL, and include og:image:width and height so the first share renders correctly.
- og:url should be the canonical URL, without tracking parameters.
- twitter:card set to summary_large_image, plus twitter:title, description and image; X falls back to OG tags for anything missing.
Why previews break (cached old images, relative paths, redirect chains, images blocked by robots.txt) and how to fix each one per platform is in Open Graph tags explained: how to fix link previews on every platform.
Common mistakes
- Relative image paths. Every platform requires an absolute https URL.
- An image smaller than 600 pixels wide, which triggers the tiny square thumbnail.
- Forgetting that platforms cache previews; changing the tags does nothing until you re-scrape.
- Blocking the image folder in robots.txt, which stops the scraper fetching it.
- Tags placed in the body instead of the head.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need both Open Graph and Twitter tags?
Open Graph covers most platforms; add twitter:card so X uses the large image layout. The generator includes both.
Why does my preview still show the old image?
The platform cached it. Use its debugger tool to re-scrape the URL.
Does WordPress add these automatically?
Yoast and Rank Math do, from the featured image. Use this tool for static pages, custom templates, or to override per page.
Is any data stored?
No. The tags are generated in your browser.
