Reverse Text Generator
What is the Reverse Text Generator?
The Reverse Text Generator flips text in four different ways: reverse the characters (so “hello world” becomes “dlrow olleh”), reverse the order of words (“world hello”), reverse the order of lines, or reverse each word in place while keeping the word order. It also offers upside-down and mirrored output using Unicode look-alike characters, and case flipping. Paste, choose a mode, copy. It runs in your browser and handles anything from a single word to a whole document.
How to use it
- Paste or type your text.
- Choose a mode: characters, words, lines, each word, upside down, or flip case.
- The output updates instantly. Click Copy.
The four kinds of reversal
- Characters: the classic mirror of the whole string. Useful for puzzles, palindrome checks and testing string functions.
- Words: keeps every word intact and reverses their order. Handy for reordering lists and for a certain kind of poetry.
- Lines: reverses the order of lines, which is a quick way to flip a log file or a chronological list.
- Each word: reverses letters inside each word but keeps the sentence order, the form used in some ciphers and word games.
Why emoji and accents can break it
A naive character reversal splits text into UTF-16 units, which tears emoji, flags and some accented letters into invalid halves. This tool reverses by grapheme cluster, so an emoji stays an emoji and a letter with a combining accent stays attached. The upside-down mode substitutes Unicode characters that look flipped; it covers Latin letters and digits, and passes through anything else unchanged. The detail, and the traps in other tools, is in reverse text explained: the four kinds, the real uses, and why emoji break it.
Real uses
- Checking whether a phrase is a palindrome.
- Generating test strings for right-to-left rendering and text-direction bugs.
- Flipping a sorted list without re-sorting.
- Social media bios and usernames that stand out.
- Classroom exercises on strings and encoding.

Frequently asked questions
Does it work with non-Latin scripts?
Character, word and line reversal work with any script. Upside-down mode only has substitutes for Latin letters and digits.
Can I reverse a whole file?
Paste the contents; there is no length limit that matters in practice.
Is my text stored?
No. Everything happens in the browser.
