Meta Tag Extractor
What is the Meta Tag Extractor?
The Meta Tag Extractor fetches any public page and lists the tags that search engines and social platforms read: title, meta description, canonical URL, robots directives, Open Graph and Twitter Card tags, hreflang, viewport, and the H1 to H3 headings. It is the quickest way to audit your own pages after a change, or to see exactly how a competitor has set up the page that outranks you. The page is fetched by a small server-side helper on Toolz Directory; only the URL you enter is sent.
How to use it
- Paste the URL and click Extract.
- Read the summary: title with character count, description with count, canonical, robots and language.
- Expand the social section to see the Open Graph and Twitter tags and the preview image.
- Check the headings outline to see how the page is structured.
- Copy any tag, or copy the whole report.
What to look for
- Title and description length: over about 60 and 160 characters and Google will truncate or rewrite them.
- Canonical should be the page itself, absolute, with the right protocol and trailing slash. A canonical pointing elsewhere means this page is telling Google not to index it.
- Robots should not say noindex on pages you want ranked. It happens more often than you would think after a staging copy goes live.
- Open Graph image should be at least 1200 by 630 pixels and absolute; a missing og:image is why link previews show a blank box.
- Exactly one H1, then H2s for sections. Multiple H1s or heading levels used for styling confuse the outline.
How to read all of this on a competitor’s page, and turn it into a checklist for your own, is in meta tags explained: how to read any page’s SEO setup.

Frequently asked questions
Why are some tags missing that I can see in the browser?
Tags injected by JavaScript after load are not in the raw HTML. The tool reads the HTML as a crawler’s first pass sees it, which is what matters for indexing.
Can I extract tags from a page behind a login?
No, only publicly reachable pages.
Does it show structured data?
It lists JSON-LD blocks found in the page so you can see which schema types are present.
Is the URL stored?
It is used for the request and not kept.
